2015 Annual Tree Tapping Ceremony

On the morning of March 10, 2015, the Sununu Youth Services Center in Manchester served as the host location for the annual NHMPA Tree Tapping Ceremony. The guest of honor was Governor Maggie Hassan.

Approximately 25 people were on hand including NH Dept of Agriculture Commissioner Lorraine Merrill, NH Dept of Agriculture Regulatory Services Director Jennifer Gornnert, the director, staff members and students at the Sununu Center and members of the NHMPA.
One student from the Sununu Center helped the Governor to pick out just the right spot on the tree to tap. Governor Hassan used an antique hand drill, tapped in the spile with a hammer and hung the bucket. The sunny warm morning allowed for a the sap to flow readily from the hole. The NHMPA president, Bodie Peters, presented the Governor with a basket full of maple products donated by the members. A tour of the students’ sugar house on the Center’s campus concluded the event. We extend our appreciation and thanks to all who made this event such a success.
